NPIEN SALUTES TONGAN TROOPS

The troops from the Kingdom of Tonga were the latest to leave Iraq. Thirteen other countries have also pulled out. Tongan Marines, in a Los Angeles Times article on December 5, 2008, performed the Sipi Tau at a farewell ceremony in Baghdad. The number 2 US Commander in Iraq, Lt. Gen. Lloyd J. Austin, commended the troops for their "high, infectious morale." It was also noted that the culture is one of friendship. We thank you for your service, which has helped make our world a safer place. You have served and represented us so well, and all Pacific Islanders should be very proud of you.
