Happy New Year 2010 from the NPIEN Board

On behalf of the NPIEN Board of Directors, Falanai Ala, President, Eugene Mafi, Secretary, Martha Gusukuma Donnenfield, Treasurer, Members Rita Scanlan, Aileen Tanimoto Matsuura, and member/Northern California Chapter President Soledad Santos, we would like to wish all of our members a Happy New Year 2010! We will soon be posting our 2009 Accomplishments, but of note are the following:

*Ongoing mentoring program and ukulele instruction at a number of schools, including Will Rogers Middle School, Lawndale, Prarie Vista Middle School, Hawthorne, Davis Middle School, Compton, California Academy of Math and Science, Carson, Stanford Middle School, Long Beach, Palms Elementary School, Lakewood, Costa Mesa High School, Costa Mesa
*Two Ohana Hawaiian BBQ Fundraiser Nights
*Co-sponsorship of the Linaka Polynesian School of Dance Luau
*Over 297 attended the 2009 Annual Conference at Paramount High School - see our conference report at www.npien.com
*A new Major Sponsor, AXA Financial
*Established the Tsunami Education Relief Fund to aid schools in Samoa, American Samoa, and Tonga
* The First Annual Northern California NPIEN Conference administered by our Northern California Chapter!

The Thompson's will be participating in the Rose Parade where new Eagle Scout Andrew Thompson will march with 300 other Scouts to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting. Andrew received a US Flag from America Samoa Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, which was flown over the US Capital in his honor.
