Please forward to eligible colleagues:

History and Commemoration: Legacies of the Pacific War 2010 NEH Landmarks Workshop for Community College Faculty

Workshop 1: July 25 - 30, 2010

Workshop 2: August 1 - 6, 2010

With support from the National Endowment for the Humanities Landmarks in American History and Culture program, two one-week workshops will be offered on the subject of "History and Commemoration: Legacies of the Pacific War." The workshops are sponsored by the East-West Center (Asian Studies Development Program), the Arizona Memorial Museum Association, and the National Park Service (World War II Valor in the Pacific National Monument).

The program offers a mix of lectures and discussion, opportunities for individual research, and visits to Pacific War sites in the greater Honolulu area, particularly Pearl Harbor. Presentations by scholars known for their work on the history and memory of the Pacific War will focus on a range of key places and events that continue to be points of interest and controversy in interpreting the significance of the Pacific War. Classroom sessions will be complemented with visits to historic sites and opportunities to utilize resources in the library and archive collections of the University of Hawai'i.

The workshops will consist of 25 U.S. community college faculty, eligible for NEH funding (a $1200 cash stipend to help cover travel expenses, books, food and lodging), as well as ten Asian and Pacific college faculty, to be supported with funding from the Arizona Memorial Museum Association. Both full-time and adjunct faculty teaching in U.S. community colleges may apply for NEH support.
Participants will receive a $1200 cash stipend to help cover travel expenses, books, food and lodging.
